Artist Statement

Painting is my passion; it transports me to a peaceful place and renews my spirit. This sense of quietness and tranquility are the elements I try to capture and convey to the viewer. I work primarily in oils, combining my love of color, light and space. I reference my subject without allowing it to define my painting. Negative space is as important an element in my painting as the subject is. Color is primary; it reflects the mood of my painting. I apply brush stroke over brush stroke creating pieces and patterns of color that speak more of the abstract than the representational.
